Your post takes me back to my travels through the Himalayas, visiting monastries. I've always marveled at the monks for their ability to devote their lives to something the majority can't grasp. But I used to wonder if they were missing the external world's excitments. Now, that I no longer do, I come to the conclusion they're fine with what they do.
